December 2009
my head cold and i linger in the City of Brotherly Love, working and playing with everyone who was infected before i arrived.
sometimes i dream of Vietnamese hoagies http://bit.ly/6iv2uz
things you can’t find near Hearth Hill http://bit.ly/6NtvKY
can’t breath under here. it’s growing dark. send … help … [
playing Hide-n-Seek with Petra and Zuza. 2 year old Petra is It. rather than “i found you!”, she is burying us with pillows.
searching through New Jersey’s legendary Fazzio’s, a wonderland of discarded industrial equipment & hardware

oops! dear universe: that message was for just one of you.
on my way. need anything?
Zuza & Malard by Zuza: One morning Zuza & Malard went to the fair. Zuza brought some mints for Malard. It was quite a blast.
wishing y’all a cool yule!
crawling north on I-95, hemmed in by holiday shoppers before and behind me, walls of grey snow to my left and right.
leaving newly restored electricity in our wake, @Natterjack and i have driven down from the increasingly muddy highlands to the frozen east.
thick drips and clumps of snow rain from every tree. inch by inch, the white ground mattress shrinks down to mere comforter.
if you’re alert indoors, you can hear the moment when the outside temperature crests freezing, and the snow begins to drip.
what i’m enjoying most, in ascending order (1) short work day, enforced by darkness, (2) deep silences, (3) being here with @Natterjack.
the technology i currently miss most, in descending order: (1) indoor plumbing, (2) abundant alternating current, (3) central heating.
wondering what to do with this thick apple syrup i cooked.
wondering what to do with this thick apple syrup.
mulling cider and grilling wraps. since moving to @HearthHill, many of my best camping trips have been at home.
driving from @HearthHill into town, along 10+ miles of US-33, for every telephone pole there is a tree down on the lines.
is it the monochrome landscape? the warmth (or fumes) from this openface gas heater? or the kickass backrub from Robin that make me so lazy?
snowbound without electricity or central heat makes you appreciate how dark and long was the pre-industrial winter night.
no electricity expected today. putting blocks of ice in our frig, to use it as an icebox.
cookin’ with gas, waiting for electric power to be restored, listening to local call-in radio chatter about the snow.
mantled in sodden snow and frozen rain, the trees bend over like white haired men burdened by long years.
brownie secret #1 Ghirardelli mix is very good. #2 substitute melted butter for oil. #3 slightly underbake. #4 eat room temp.
when last i dismantled a laptop, either the parts were bigger — or my vision was better.
this month is the 20th anniversary of producing the “Xmassacre Part One”. listening to the original audio cassette, now.
the wind roars through the tree tops, sounding like surf in a storm, on the hilltop.
pre-winter wishful thinking (tropical and thermal sleeves) http://bit.ly/8c9bZq
winter, @Natterjack and i have returned to @HearthHill, where i am clearing a scrap of guest space amidst the remodelling.
gazing at a picture postcard snowscape, inventing German words, and sharing soup with @Ace7Ace, @TheCrazyBaker and @Natterjack. #happy
we came to Hall & Amy’s hilltop for the weekend. but they JUST replaced dial-up with DSL — and will only talk to us on Skype video chat.
on an impulse, steam-sautéing carrots in cherry tea. so tasty, i’m eating them with my fingers, as they cook. try this. #cooking
pale spray on gray bark / lingering, hill glowing, green / moss on every tree. #autumn #haiku
