our hill’s long shadow colors bottom trees like burnt night, while the sun colors the south hill a raw umber.

i’ve returned home for just a couple days, where i need to handle a week’s worth of urgent business, and repack the car for another three weeks on the road.
Hearth Hill stands sternly peaceful; the river curls around the perimeter, frozen silent.
gray slush asphalt, dirty window sky, snow gently slants, blurring tree line. empty belly rumbles wishes, whispers to me “Waffle Hut”.
nearly 2 hours of blinding snow and crawling speeds down slick mountain highways leaves me exhausted. napping in a rest area.
on the westward face of the Allegheny Mountains, a temperature drop and flurry of snow.
spent the afternoon celebrating Rory’s bday, and the evening catching up with Nik. now, the night road into the hills.
